Pomminville. Good player. Reliable. Plays a clean, effective game. Owner of the best goal in Sabre history. Hopefully a Sabre for life.
Still don't think he's a great Captain, but the best choice of a bad lot.

That OT goal against the Sens was sweet!
I remember watching that game pretty well.
I miss that team. I hope we can get back to winning in playoffs again.

I like Pommer but I dont want him to be the top 2 guy. I dont know why he wears the C as I dont see leadership from him that most captains have.

I would say that Pommer is the best all-around player that we have on the roster. He always shows up, doesn't miss games and you can count on 60+ points from him every year.

As far as him being the captain, I've always been on the fence about it. Sure he isn't a "rah rah" type of guy, at least that we can see, but he does come to play every game and is extremely consistent, which can't be overlooked. I don't think they have a better choice on the roster right now when it comes to a captain.

Pommer is the type of player who's game is as consistent as the sun rising. He's a smooth skater who plays a smart game with no fanfare or flair and Ruff counts on him to play in all situations on the ice.

People tend to get caught up in numbers and point to his statistical decline in production, which isn't to the point where it's alarming. And they also yearn for him to play a game that's not his style--they expect a more rugged game, more hits, more aggression.

But, that's not Pominville. He is comfortable in his game and it's easy to forget that when Drury and Briere left, he had his best statistical season in 2007/08 while taking on the mantle of leadership that season.

The subtlety with which Pominville plays the game is usually lost upon the casual fan, but a look at the penalty kill in his absence shows just how important he is to the team. And, although he will never show the bravado of Messier, and probably will never have the "Captain Clutch" moniker of Drury, he will be on the ice at every crucial point and the team will count on him to do what he's always done--take care of the task at hand.

As a player who's been in a leadership role for the last four seasons and as a veteran that the youngin's can look to for guidance, he would make a solid, if unspectacular, captain.

That's just dumb yes let's trade our most consistant offensive player for a guy whose played with or behind yr likes of getzlaf and perry. The guy never complains shows up every night and is a total professional, a guy who leads by example untradable imo

You are also not in the locker room so you probably have no clue how much ledership he has.

Pominville might be one of the most underrated players in the league. He is a model player on this team. He will be a sabres for life and hopefully the first one to raise the cup for Buffalo.

I agree... very consistent player. Statistically, the positive with him is those numbers are probably his floor... 35G - 45A - 80PTS about his ceiling. I think that playing with a higher caliber center all season (Hodgson or Grigorenko) will have him at the middle-high end of his production.

This right here. With a top line center feeding him the puck, he will score Vanek like numbers.

Agreed. With a top flight C, Vanek can get back to his 40/40 days and Pommer back to 30/50

I like these last 3 posts ahead of me. Trade Pommenville for Ryan and then who is dishing the puck to Ryan? Pomenville and Vanek get it done with an ever changing center. Either get someone in here and you will see them go up to close to a point per game or get CoHo up there and let him play the ENTIRE season with them, through the good and the bad. I think Both Vanek and Pommenville are under rated considering that the never have the same center for more than 10 games. Or, they got stuck with "no pass" Roy.

I believe that was the basis of a quote by Daniel Alfredson after that series-ending goal...."I let him go by me because it was only Jason Pommenville."

Reading some of the posts, it's very typical.

Yes, the guy is a tremendous player. Yes, he plays all situations and very well.
Yes, he leads by example. He always produces.

But...............he doesn't hit and everyone assumes he's not an ideal leader.

So let's trade him because another teams player is better.
Clearly that's the smart thing to do.
